Sustainable Success


Monteverde      Day Five

We started our day the same way that many people throughout the world do- with a cup of coffee! The only difference is that we were able to go right to the source with a trip to a Cafe de Monteverde coffee farm. On the farm, we learned about sustainability, and protecting our environment. One of the growers on the plantation shared how they have had to make changes to the plantation due to climate change. The ten families that own the farm are seeking ways to give back to the environment while paying a living wage to its seasonal workers.  We were also able to participate in the process of coffee making, from the picking of the berries, to the roasting of the beans. At the end of the tour, we had the chance to taste all of the different varieties of coffee the farm has to offer. The next time that we put our hands on a cup of hot coffee, we will remember all of the people that had a hand in it making its way to us.
